How to get involved with your local Unitarian community

One of the greatest gifts of being part of a congregation is the sense of belonging. At Blackpool Unitarians, we offer multiple ways for people to get involved, whether you're looking for spiritual nourishment, friendship, or a chance to make a difference.

Our Sunday services are the heart of our community. Each week, we gather for worship that includes reflection, music and meaningful discussion. These services are open to everyone, regardless of your beliefs or background. Many visitors are pleasantly surprised by how relaxed and welcoming our atmosphere is. You don't need to dress formally, arrive early, or know what to expect—just come as you are.

Beyond Sunday worship, we run several groups and activities throughout the month. These might include a book club, a philosophy discussion group, or social gatherings over tea and cake. These informal meetings are perfect for getting to know people, sharing ideas and building friendships within the congregation.

Ways to get involved include:

• Attending Sunday services and staying for refreshments afterwards
• Joining one of our interest groups or discussion circles
• Volunteering to help with services, events or administration
• Participating in our outreach and social justice initiatives
• Supporting fundraising activities that benefit local causes
• Simply visiting us to explore what Unitarianism means

We also recognise that people have different levels of commitment. Some members attend every week; others visit occasionally or participate mainly in specific activities. There's no pressure to be involved in any particular way. Our community respects different life circumstances and welcomes people at whatever level suits them.

If you're new to Blackpool or new to Unitarianism, don't worry about feeling out of place. Our congregation has experience welcoming newcomers, and people are genuinely pleased to meet visitors. We can answer questions, show you around, and help you understand what we're about.

We also believe in putting our values into action. Throughout the year, we engage in community service, support local charities, and advocate for social causes we care about. If you're passionate about making Blackpool a better place, you'll find kindred spirits here.

The best way to experience our community is to visit us. Come to a service, introduce yourself, and spend time with us. You'll quickly get a feel for who we are and whether Blackpool Unitarians feels like a place where you belong.
